Money doesn't have to be complicated
Back in 2018, three friends sat around a kitchen table in Sydney trying to make sense of their own budgets. None of us had finance degrees. We just knew there had to be a simpler way to handle monthly spending without feeling overwhelmed.
Started small, stayed honest
The first version of what became ophrandovius was honestly just a spreadsheet we shared between ourselves. Nothing fancy. But we noticed something interesting — when we broke down our spending into actual categories and tracked where money went each week, everything clicked into place.
We weren't trying to build software initially. It was more about helping each other stay accountable without judgment. One of us struggled with groceries creeping up, another kept underestimating bills, and the third had a coffee habit that needed, well, acknowledgment.
Friends started asking if they could use our system. Then their partners wanted in. By mid-2020, we realized this could actually help people beyond our circle. So we built something proper.
What we've learned along the way
These numbers matter to us because they represent real people getting a handle on their finances without needing an accountant on speed dial.
Simple tracking
You shouldn't need a degree to know where your money goes. We focus on the basics first — income, fixed costs, variable spending. The complicated stuff can wait until you're ready.
Weekly check-ins
Monthly budgets are great in theory, but life happens weekly. We encourage quick reviews every seven days. Takes about ten minutes, keeps you on track without obsessing.
Real support
When you email us, you get actual people who remember struggling with their own budgets. We're here to help, not judge. Nobody's perfect with money, and that's completely fine.
Who's behind ophrandovius
We're a small crew based in Castle Hill. Most of us came from completely different backgrounds before finding our way here. What connects us is believing personal finance shouldn't feel like solving equations.
Sienna Kallenberg
Co-Founder
Started as a primary school teacher before switching paths. Now builds educational content that doesn't talk down to people. Still uses teaching techniques to explain money concepts.
Norah Fjeldstad
Product Lead
Previously worked in hospitality management where budgets changed weekly. Brings that practical chaos experience to how we design features. Refuses to add anything that feels too clever.
No shame zone
Everyone's been broke or confused about money at some point. We design with that reality in mind.
Plain language
If we can't explain something to our parents over lunch, we rewrite it until we can.
Actual feedback
We read every message. The good stuff and especially the frustrated stuff. Both help us improve.
What working with us looks like
We keep things transparent. Here's what happens when you start using ophrandovius, from initial setup through to those weekly check-ins that actually make a difference.
